“So?” prompted Thoreau. “Maybe the last one
will leave now that his friends are dead.”
“I don’t believe he was the last. At the
temple, chainsaws were used. I saw none at the
oil well and rednecks are never parted with a
chainsaw. There must be more, perhaps many
more.”
“What do you suggest, man?”
“We should fortify this settlement and prepare
for an assault. Your people will need to
help.”
Thoreau seemed about to laugh. “What did you
have in mind?”
“First, we need to build walls.”
“With what, man? There’s barely enough metal
laying around to make huts.”
