One of reasons for the creation of Illumitas was not only to help authors publish their works to the web, but also to help them profit from their work. Illumitas’ answer to this is to allow the user to insert advertisements into their books. Ads can be show in the margins above the book and to the right of the book. Also, individual ads can be inserted between pages.
If you are wondering where you can get ads, you might start by trying the very easy to use Google Adsense. Another great source of advertisements is affiliate networks such as Commission Junction, ShareASale, and Ebay Partners. Or you can always go the old fashion route and try to sell ad space directly to companies. The primary thing you need to insert an advertisement into your book is the html or javascript code for the ad.

This is the advertisement that will appear above your book on every page. Generally, you want this ad to be short and wide so that it does not push your book down the screen too much. If you've already specified a top margin ad, it should appear here to give you an idea of what it will look like. If you click on the link called "Add, Update or Delete Advertisement" then you will be brought to a form where you can make changes to that ad.
This is the advertisement that will appear to the right of your book on every page. Generally, you want this ad to be tall and thin so that it does not run off the edge of the screen. If you've already specified a right margin ad, it should appear here to give you an idea of what it will look like. If you click on the link called "Add, Update or Delete Advertisement" then you will be brought to a form where you can make changes to that ad.
Using this section, you can add, delete, or review individual ads that are inserted onto pages throughout your book. The first thing you see is a list of all existing page advertisements. For reference purposes you can give each ad a name. Next to each one is a link titled "Add, Update, or Delete Advertisements". Clicking on this link will bring you to a form where you can make changes to that ad. If you do to delete an ad, Illumitas will automatically adjust the page number of any subsequent ads.
Beneath the list of current page ads is a form to add new ads. The field labeled "Name" is just a way for you to identify the ad in the Page Advertisements list. The field labeled "Insert On Page" is the page number where you want the ad to appear. Please note that when you insert an ad like this, Illumitas will automatically adjust the page number of any subsequent ads.
Use the field labeled "Advertisement HTML" to define the advertisment. This the the HTML code that the advertiser should provide for you.
When you are ready to insert the ad, just click on the button labeled "Insert Advertisement".
At the bottom of the page is an example of how your book will appear when published. Use this to aid you in determining which pages to put illustrations on. If the book doesn't seem to update with your illustration changes, please try using your browser's refresh feature.
