Illustrating your book

There are three ways to illustrate your book: the cover illustration, chapter illustrations, and page illustrations. The cover illustration appears on the cover of the book just above the book’s title. Chapter illustrations appear at the beginning of their assigned chapter just beneath the chapter title. Page illustrations are illustrations that will take up a whole page and can be inserted anywhere in the book.

Cover Illustration

If you've already added a cover illustration, it will appear here for your review. If you click on the link called "Add, Update or Delete Illustration" then you will be brought to a form where you can make changes to the cover illustration.

Chapter Illustrations

Using this section, you can add, delete or review the illustrations that will appear at the beginning of chapters. The first thing you see is a list of each chapter and whether or not it is already illustrated. If you click on the link called "Add, Update or Delete Illustration" then you will be brought to a form where you can make changes to that chapter's illustration.

Page Illustrations

Using this section, you can add, delete, or review individual illustrations that are inserted onto pages throughout your book. The first thing you see is a list of all existing page illustrations. For reference purposes the name of the picture file is included. Next to each one is a link titled "Delete Illustration". Clicking on this link will remove the illustration from your book. If you do choose to delete an illustration, Illumitas will automatically adjust the page number of any subsequent illustrations.

Beneath the list of current illustrations is a form to add new illustrations. The field labeled "Insert On Page" is the page number where you want the illustration to appear. Please note that when you insert an illustration like this, Illumitas will automatically adjust the page number of any subsequent illustrations.

Use the field labeled "Illustration File" to select the picture you wish to upload as the new illustration. Just click on the browse button to find the jpg file on your hard drive.

When you are ready to insert the illustration, just click on the button labeled "Insert Illustration".

At the bottom of the page is an example of how your book will appear when published. Use this to aid you in determining which pages to put illustrations on. If the book doesn't seem to update with your illustration changes, please try using your browser's refresh feature.
